Jamie’s Italian in Cardiff has launched a new menu and - not being slow on the uptake where there’s food to be tasted - LF went along to find out what was new. The restaurant still has people queuing outside and once in, has a lively buzz. We tried the Courgette Fritti and Crunchy Stuffed Ascolana Olives to start - both starters were light and subtle - the courgettes were a good choice if, like me, you want to leave enough space for the mains. To follow, we opted for the Scallop & Squid Ink Linguine and Fish in a Bag. The linguine was delicious with just a touch of chilli and the fish, which included clams and mussels really kept the flavour of the sea. A shared Tiramisu to finish off was delicious. The presentation of the food really works, such as the fish which came in a paper bag within foil. Worth mentioning is the lighting which is bang on - dim but not so dark that you can’t see what you’re eating. The service was particularly good - attentive and friendly, but professional. Prices are carefully pitched too with starters around £4 and several mains at £10.
We’ll be back!
