Oscars 2010: The gowns, glitz and gongs

8th March 2010

As you well know it was the long awaited 2010 Academy Awards ceremony last night, and boy was it quite the show! We’ve rounded up the best gowns and gong winners for you here…

The biggest talking point of the entire night - beating even the ‘who wore what’ report - and certainly giving us the biggest thrill was Kathryn Bigelow’s triumph.

Not only did her film Hurt Locker win a whopping six Oscars, but she was crowned the first woman EVER to win the coveted best director Academy Award - beating ex-husband James Cameron with his 3D epic Avatar. Deliciously appropriate since it’s International Women’s day today too!

Elsewhere Sandra Bullock looked stunning in a glitzy Marchesa gown while claiming her award for best actress - beating British hopefuls Helen Mirren and Carey Muilligan - for her role in US smash The Blind Side. Mo’ Nique added another award to her now bulging collection for her role in gritty drama Precious, and Jeff Bridges pipped Colin Firth to the post for best actor, following his multi-award winning performance in Crazy Heart.

And now that’s all out of the way - let’s talk dresses!

We think the winner has to be among Sandra’s silver spangled Marchesa gown, Cameron’s gorgeous flowing Oscar de la Renta number or Demi’s Atelier Versace nude tiered dress. But Kate’s YSL strapless frock and Carey's Prada gown sure do come close!
